Mr. Rangel was raised in Corpus Christi, Texas.  After graduating from law school in 2001, he clerked for the Honorable Hayden W. Head, Jr., United States District Judge for the Southern District of Texas, Corpus Christi Division from the Fall of 2001 to the Spring of 2002.  From 2002 to 2006, Mr. Rangel practiced complex multidistrict litigation in Houston, Texas.  During that time, he litigated cases across the country involving defective products.  In 2006, he joined the Rangel Law Firm and entered into practice with his father. 

Mr. Rangel has participated in the trial of cases on both sides of the docket, in both state and federal courts.  Mr. Rangel's practice focuses primarily on business litigation and complex oil and gas disputes.  Representative cases since joining the Rangel Law Firm have included:

  • Represented South Texas landowners in title dispute where over 50 individual plaintiffs claim to be titleholders in Brooks County, Texas .  Favorable summary judgment for landowners upheld on appeal.
  • Represented local television station in its defense of discrimination claims in federal court.  At the end of trial, the jury rendered a defense verdict.
  • Represented international television station in its defense of multi-million dollar breach of contract claims in state court.  After removal to federal court and moving to transfer venue under a forum selection clause, case transferred to Florida where it was ultimately dismissed.
  • Represented South Texas landowner in prosecution of declaratory judgment in Duval County, Texas .  Obtained summary judgment and favorable declaration for landowner, along with an award of attorneys' fees.
  • Represented national company in the prosecution of suit seeking to enforce the non-competition provision of an employment contract.  Obtained settlement for company.
  • Represented Arkansas oil and gas company in its defense of breach of contract claims in Nueces County, Texas .  At an early stage of proceedings, obtained favorable settlement for company.
  • Represented driver of vehicle involved in catastrophic automobile accident.  Obtained favorable settlement for driver.
  • Represented South Texas trust in its defense of employment discrimination claims in Jim Hogg County, Texas .  Obtained summary judgment in favor of trust.
  • Represented South Texas trust in its defense of personal injury claims in Jim Hogg County, Texas .  Obtained summary judgment in favor of trust.
  • Represented South Texas landowner in its prosecution of claims for breach of contract against oil and gas operator in McMullen County, Texas.
  • Representing Oklahoma oil and gas company in its defense of contamination claims pending in Bee County, Texas.
  • Representing oil and gas company in its defense of failure to develop claims pending in LaSalle County, Texas.
  • Represented South Texas mineral owner in negotiations of oil and gas lease located in McMullen County, Texas.
  • Representing investment group in breach of contract dispute in Nueces County, Texas.
